OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee our merchandise to be free of manufacturing defects and will accept any defective item for refund or exchange.

All in-store returns/exchanges in accordance with this policy for purchases paid for by cash or check require a government-issued photo ID.

RETAIL STORE PURCHASES

Madewell gladly accepts returns of unworn, unwashed, undamaged or defective merchandise purchased in our retail stores for full refund or exchange within 30 days of original purchase. Requests for refund or exchange of merchandise purchased by cash or check must be accompanied by the original receipt. Refunds will be made in the form of the original payment. Requests to exchange merchandise received as a gift must be accompanied by a gift receipt.

TELEPHONE AND INTERNET PURCHASES

Madewell gladly accepts returns of unworn, unwashed, undamaged or defective merchandise purchased by phone or online for full refund or exchange within 60 days of original purchase. Requests for refund or exchange of merchandise purchased by check must be accompanied by the original receipt. Refunds will be made in the form of the original payment. Requests to exchange merchandise received as a gift must be accompanied by a gift receipt.

PRICE ADJUSTMENT

Madewell gladly honors a one-time price adjustment on full-price merchandise within seven days of the retail purchase or mail order ship date if accompanied by the original receipt. Items not purchased at full price are ineligible for price adjustments.

PURCHASES PAID BY CHECK

Refunds in accordance with this policy for purchases made by check over the phone or online will be electronically deposited into the account from which the funds were originally withdrawn. A check in the amount of the refund will be issued and mailed to you for refunds of purchases made by check in our retail stores.

RETURN OR EXCHANGE AN ITEM IN OUR RETAIL STORES

For your convenience, Madewell phone, Internet and store purchases may be returned to any Madewell store for refund or exchange in accordance with this policy. Monogrammed, personalized or final-sale items cannot be returned or exchanged.

PREPAID RETURN SERVICE (U.S. ORDERS ONLY)

Madewell’s Flex Label provides quick, convenient return service: Our Flex Label works with both UPS and the US Postal Service.

  • Shipping charges are prepaid and no postage is required.
  • The cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund: 1 item, $5.95; 2 or more items, $7.50. Simply affix the Flex Label to your package and drop it in a UPS drop box or at a UPS store, or give it to a UPS carrier. You may also drop it in a mailbox, drop it off at the post office or give it to your postal carrier.
  • Please seal the package securely and affix the Flex Label provided on the bottom of your customer receipts. The Flex Label cannot be used for shipments outside the 50 United States, D.C. and Puerto Rico or for gift exchange or group sales.

ON YOUR OWN (U.S. AND CANADA ORDERS ONLY)

You can also send the item back to us at the address below using any other trackable method, at your expense. Once we receive your package, we will promptly process an exchange or issue a refund in accordance with this policy. Please be certain to insure the package.

If you do not have the packing slip, please include the following information with your return:

  • Your name and billing address
  • The name, address and ZIP code of the person who placed the order, if it was a gift
  • The original purchase price and approximate date of the purchase
  • The item number of the merchandise, if available

RETURN OR EXCHANGE AN ITEM FROM OUTSIDE THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES

Items purchased in a Madewell store or by phone or online may be sent to the address below using any trackable method, at your expense. Once we receive your package, we will promptly process an exchange or issue a refund, in accordance with this policy.

RETURN OR EXCHANGE AN ITEM FROM A JAPAN ORDER

 

Madewell gladly accepts returns of unworn, unwashed, undamaged or defective merchandise purchased by phone or online for full refund within 60 days of original purchase. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your international online purchase, emailritsuko@jcrew.com to initiate a Return Merchandise Authorization, which is required to process a return.

Ritsuko and her team will provide you with instructions on where returns should be shipped. If you choose to return an item, our e-commerce partner, FiftyOne, will provide you with a refund of the original merchandise price and any duties and taxes originally paid on the item in the same currency and using the same exchange rate as your original order. Please note that you will still be responsible for any shipping charges.
