For the last month I have been helping a friend remodel a home. Last week I attempted to return about $50 of brass fittings that were the wrong size and purchase new fittings of the correct size. I used store credit that he obtained from a previous purchase. The return was denied, something I have never heard of, and we were treated like suspects of an crime. After a couple of hours dealing with this with the local store and the company they contract with, 'The Retail Equation' we were told that we had a negative rating. Hard to imagine that after spending about 30,000 between the two of us a company could consider us 'negative'. So, we have switched to Lowe's and will never go back to Home Depot after being treated so unfairly. While our purchases are tiny compared to their gross numbers it is my hope that enough folks will recoil from this hegemonic and arbitrary behavior and maybe we will get their attention. Gawd, I really hate this company now.
DUMB return policy
Tried to return 2 of 6 2*4's I purchased with a Home Depot Gift Card. I had the receipt, the gift card and the 2*4's with me at the return desk. After doing the return the cashier asked for my ID. I asked for what reason, I had everything needed and no-one asked for my ID at the time of purchase, her answer was because the computer says I have to enter it. WHY??? Home Depot just had their computers hacked, why would I entrust my information to them, WHY???? This is nothing more than a information grab. Therefore, don't make a mistake with a gift card if you don not want Home Depot to have more of your information. DUMB POLICY! P.S. For $6.00 I'll keep the 2*4's and my information - bye bye Home Depot.
CANNOT RETURN items purchased with a STORE CREDIT CARD
Recently made a purchase of $160.00 and supplemented it with a $15.00 store credit card, had to return 4 items on that purchase due to the light switch does not work with Commercial Electric T65 led light. The person working in the electrical dept said that was the switch... Anyways Home Depot will not return any of the items on the receipt because I used a STORE CREDIT CARD. I am filing a dispute. Welcome Lowes
Home Depot wouldn't let me return some flooring tools because they said I "reached my return limit without a receipt." What difference does it make if I'm going to get a store card anyway and spend it again there? We own a flooring company and will be taking our business to Lowes where they don't have such ridiculous policies.
My girlfriend and I purchased a GE gas range on October 13, 2014 at the Lemon Grove Home Depot. It arrived on October 15th working just fine. Approximately 3-weeks later the bake function ceased working yet everything else worked. Calls and visits to HD were made thinking a quick service would fix the issue. At this time we learned that Home Depot would take no responsibility or action that any appliance issue must be handled through the OEM (GE). Even though we live in one of the largest population areas of the US".GE has no factory representative there so we were assigned to a third party repair facility with no contract with Home Depot. They couldn't show up for over a week and when they did, they did not have parts on their van to fix the problem (even though model and make was provided).. Given that Thanksgiving is next week and nobody will guarantee a fix by that day (they scheduled another repair visit for Tuesday bfore Thanksgiving however it places us up against the wall with 20 people showing up). Calls to Home Depot home office for a replacement or guaranteed parts delivery went nowhere. Home Depot is adamant that they are not responsible for any appliance purchase yet calls to the OEM stated just the opposite, "Home Depot could fix this by re placement".
Bottom line, you should beware purchasing any appliance from Home Depot. They will Provide inadequate after the sale service and plead Mia culpa as to responsibility. Our understanding based on other consumer sites is that a return will be impossible as HD will claim it is a custom order despite the fact that literally dozens are in the local GE warehouse which they draw inventory from (Home Depot staff has even told me that they only collect money for the product but that the actual sale as far as HD is concerned is between us and GE?). I will never purchase another appliance from Home Depot and only purchase from a company that has local, customer service.
