Return Policy

With a Receipt: An original receipt dated within 90 days of the purchase is required for return/exchange of JCPenney merchandise for a full refund of the purchase price on the original method of payment. Debit card transactions will be refunded as cash. Other rules may apply, see below.

With a Gift Receipt: Any returned merchandise accompanied by a gift receipt within 90 days will be refunded at the gift receipt price and issued in the form of a JCPenney Gift Card.

Without a Receipt or Receipted and over 90 days: The price refunded will be the lowest on sale price within the last 30 days. A refund will be issued only in the form of a JCPenney Merchandise Return Voucher or a credit to the customers’ JCPenney Charge Card.

JCPenney reserves the right to limit returns or exchanges regardless of receipt. There are exceptions to the policy, with regards to Furniture, Fine Jewelry, Special Occasion Dresses, Small Electrics, Electronics, Gift Registry, Monogrammed, Personalized and Altered Merchandise, Made-to-Measure Window Coverings, Optical, Perishable Food Items, Sephora and Salon. Selected Merchandise categories are subject to additional criteria.

Valid Photo Identification is required for all non-receipted returns/exchanges and receipted returns/exchanges over 90 days. Information from the ID will be used to authorize returns and retained in a secured company-wide database. JCPenney accepts the following ID’s for Returns: U.S., Canadian and Mexican Driver’s License, U.S. State ID’s, Canadian Province ID’s, U.S. Military ID’s, U.S. Laser Visa, Passports, Matricula Consular Card and Mexican Voter Registration Card.

Exceptions to our Return Policy

1. When purchasing or ordering Furniture from our Stores, customer must take measurements, match
colors and test the Furniture for comfort and style prior to the purchase. Furniture purchases from
JCPenney stores, once delivered and accepted are FINAL

2. Furniture purchases on may be returned within 7 days from delivery with the original sales

Note:Furniture purchased from JCPenney may be subject to a manufacturer or Store warranty, which covers repair or replacement of defective products and is only valid for a limited time, as outlined under the items warranty. Damage resulting from improper handling of the merchandise after it is received voids all warranties and/or JCPenney return policies.

Fine Jewelry
Fine Jewelry must be returned within 60 days of the purchase with the original sales receipt. Special Orders cannot be returned after delivery to the customer. Re-sized rings are eligible for return.

Special Occasion Dresses
Special Occasion Dresses must be returned in their original condition with the return tag in place.

Small Electrics and Electronics
Small Electrics and Electronics must be returned within 60 days of the purchase with the original sales receipt. The item must be returned in its original packaging and with all accompanying manuals and accessories. Manufacturer’s warranties may apply.

Gift Registry
Gift Registry purchases must be returned within 90 days of the event with verification of the Registry or gift receipt.

Monogrammed, Personalized and Altered Merchandise
Monogrammed, Personalized and Altered Merchandise cannot be returned unless the item is damaged or defective.

Made-to-Measure Window Coverings
The JCPenney Made-to-Measure special order merchandise is being manufactured according to the measurements and specifications the customer provided. The order may be changed or cancelled within 72 hours from the time of purchase. A fee equal to 25% of the retail price of the item will be applied to all order cancellations regardless of when the cancellation occurred, whether it is within or after the 72-hour grace period.

Made-to-Measure Window Coverings cannot be returned unless there is a manufacturing defect. Manufacturing defects must be reported within 90 days of the merchandise ship date.

Any manufacturing defect arising after 90 days must be resolved by the customer in accordance with the manufacturer’s warranty.

The customer is responsible for inspecting all merchandise immediately upon receipt. Damages because of shipping must be reported to JCPenney within 7 working days of receipt of the product. Final order pricing may not include additional store discounts taken at the register. There is a possibility that dye lots/stain finishes may not match on items ordered at different times.

Eyewear is custom made and manufactured to each individual’s specific measurements and prescription. Therefore, any eyewear purchase cannot be returned for a refund. The order may be changed up to the original purchase price of the order within 30 days of the original order date. The fee for the change will be 10% of the retail price of the frame, lenses or both depending on the extent of the requested change.

Perishable food items
Perishable food items cannot be returned unless the item is damaged or defective.

Returns will be accepted for items purchased from Sephora,, Sephora inside JCPenney and with or without a receipt. There is no refund of shipping charges from or All refunds of Sephora inside JCPenney,, Sephora and purchases with a receipt will be refunded to the original form of payment for the merchandise value only. All refunds without a receipt will be issued in the form of a JCPenney Merchandise Return Voucher only.

Salon Merchandise must be returned within 90 days of purchase with the original sales receipt. Appliances must be returned in their original packaging, with all accompanying manuals and accessories. Manufacturer warranties may apply. purchases have certain exceptions that may apply. Ask a desk Associate or visit for details. Shipping and handling charges are non-refundable unless the merchandise is damaged or defective. Furniture purchases may be returned within 7 days from delivery with the original sales receipt in order to provide the customer the opportunity to measure, match and test the furniture. Manufacturers’ warranties may apply.

One-Time Sales Price Adjustments
One-time sales price adjustments will be made within 7 days of the purchase with the original sales receipt.

Not what was expected. disappointedted

Very disappointed in the colors and style of the clothes i have received in this first order. a few things are pending. Shopped Penney's all my life always loved the clothes. These I would not wear.

Returns w/hardly any refunds!

It is no wonder to me now why you are going to leave the Charleston Town Center. I do not know how you have kept any online customers! Your returns policy is pure robbery.You received the all of my items back in the same condition they arrived BUT I barely received anything for returning the items! I am glad you are leaving!

I just gave my customer # etc as I wanted to return shoes. My return label did not specify if there was a charge or if it was free shipping back to the store. All this female could do was suggest I take it back to the store. I was typing to tell her I was unable to drive right now due to an injury but she disconnected herself. There is no information anywhere about cost to return items. Why is that??? Poor poor customer service!!

I ordered my grandson a five night Freddie backpack last week, it arrived today and he was so excited until he put it on and it literally came undone in his hand. He is 6 year old and totally devasted by this....... I have shopped with your company for years and years and the last 2 years I have had to return and return.. Return Policy

If I could give zero stars, I would. I have spent A LOT of money at this store. U shop for older family members who cannot make it outside to shop for themselves. This entails buying various sizes and returning the sizes that do not fit, but ALWAYS keeping the ones that o fit. Attempted to return some items today and was denied via a company that JCP contracts with for fraud. I will never ever shop at JCP again. They should be grateful that consumers are still shopping at their outdated store.

difficult and dissapointed

I phoned for information on exchanging an item for a different size. I am disabled so I can't "just go to the store," however, i expected to receive instructions for the return by the "friendly customer service".

She was NOT friendly. Apparently she could not grasp the idea of disability, so I cannot go to the store.I feel that I HAVE WASTED MONEY at JC Penny.
