Extended Holiday Return & Exchange Promise

For your convenience, we offer an extended return and exchange policy during the holiday season. Purchases made between November 1, 2015, and December 31, 2015, have an extended return period through January 15, 2016. Excluded items include cell phones and devices with a carrier contract, and AppleCare and Geek Squad® Protection plans returned without a product. All other terms and conditions of our Return & Exchange Promise apply.

Special Considerations

  • If you receive a product that is damaged in shipping, defective or that is not the product you ordered, please return it to a Best Buy store and we’ll arrange for a replacement. If you would rather return the item by mail, please call us for special instructions at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289). We will cover all reasonable and customary ground shipping fees.

  • We are happy to answer any questions you have on how to return your purchase to one of our online Marketplace sellers or you can see Marketplace Returns and Refunds for more information.

  • All Final Sale merchandise cannot be returned. Other nonreturnable purchases include digital content, prepaid cards, gift packaging, memberships, completed services, opened consumable items including batteries, ink and 3D printer filament, and items returned that are damaged, unsanitary or missing major contents.

  • Most items purchased from the Wedding Registry can be returned within 60 days of purchase. Items need to be linked to the Registry at the time of purchase to receive the extended return period. The 60-day return term applies to all customers including My Best Buy Elite and Elite Plus customers and to all products sold by Best Buy, except for cell phones and devices with a carrier contract which can be returned within 14 days of purchase. All other terms and conditions of the Best Buy Return & Exchange Promise apply.

  • Opened computer software, movies, music or video games can only be exchanged for an identical item.

  • If you decide to return a phone or device with a carrier contract, you are responsible for canceling your service contract with the carrier, and for all carrier charges.
    There are two ways to return your phone or device and cancel your service:

    • Return your device to a Best Buy store. Be sure to tell the store associate that you want to cancel your service. Carrier service cancellation policies may vary.
    • Call Best Buy Mobile at 1-877-702-2211 (6 a.m. to midnight, CT) for instructions on how to return the device by mail. Let the phone associate know that you want to cancel your service.
  • If you do not have all the original packaging or accessories, that’s okay too. We can process a return with a deduction on your refund for what is missing.

  • Most products you buy at a Best Buy Express location, or though Best Buy For Business or Best Buy Education can be returned at our stores.

  • You can cancel or return Special Order items, and you will be refunded 85% of the original purchase price. Special Order items are items not generally carried by Best Buy and/or which require that an order be placed directly with the manufacturer or distributor. The item ordered is then sent from manufacturer or distributor to Best Buy and then to you.

  • Custom and personalized orders made especially for you are nonreturnable. Custom Order items are items where a customer has requested specific attributes (e.g., finish, color, size) or where a manufacturer builds only to order.

  • If you return an item bought as part of a bundle or with a promotional discount and you do not return everything — not to worry. We will reimburse you for what you do return, minus the value of the discount or freebie.

Other Important Information

  • With a few exceptions, we will reimburse you for returned items in the same way you paid for them. If you prefer, you can make an exchange for the same item. If you paid more than $800 in cash or more than $250 by check or by a debit card without a major credit card logo, we will refund you by check within 10 business days. Any amounts deducted from a gift card will be credited to the gift card. If you no longer have the gift card used for an order, please call us at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) with your order number handy, and we’ll be happy to send you a replacement.

  • Please remember to remove your personal data and other information from the products you are returning. To learn more about our privacy practices, please see our Privacy Policy.

  • If you live outside the United States, please remember to comply with all U.S. Export Administration Regulations and control laws, and know that return shipments to Best Buy need to occur within the U.S.

  • Like many retailers, we use a third party to help prevent losses by detecting improper returns, and, except where prohibited, require a valid ID for all store returns that lack proof of purchase. Reimbursements on returns lacking proof of purchase may be denied or limited and state sales tax and fees will not be reimbursed. We accept U.S., Canadian, and Mexican Driver’s Licenses; U.S. State ID; Canadian Province ID; Matricula Consular; U.S. Military ID; Passport; U.S. Laser Visa; and U.S. Permanent Resident Card. Our third-party processor may record your ID information when you return an item, and keep it in a secure database to help us validate future returns. If we caution you or deny your return, you may request a copy of your Return Activity Report by calling 1-800-652-2331.

poor coustomer experience

Recently bought a laptop from Cleveland store. Went in to check some laptop per my wife and a nice representative told me about student deals going on. Because of $100 off we decided to buy the laptop from Best Buy. Went to the register and representative scan the coupon and for some reason it didn't go through but I was told by the representative that discount was applied. e mailed was sent to my account. On the way home when I checked my rcipt it was showing the full price rather than the discount . I called the Best Buy back and they said since it was a order they have ordered online it cannot be canceled now. I called the online store and they can also not cancel neither they can add the coupon. They asked me to return it to the store . I want to have the laptop and have the right coupon.

The coupon was not applied then the representative should have told me rather than charging me the whole money.

I never go to Best Buy and that was the last time I'm going to Best Buy anyhow to get money back.

I should stick to Amazon or Costco But unfortunately on the Labor Day Costco was closed and I went to Best Buy which is next-door.


Software issue

Conflicting information on return policy related to software. The written policy indicated opened software could be exchanged. I purchased a yearly subscription of Office 365 that I wanted to return. The item was unopened/scratch of barcode intact. It was purchased 4/24/18 and I wanted to return it on 4/29/18. I was not told about the non return policy of software at the time of purchase and it not on the receipt. When companies do this we know its "All about the money!!".

I called the store in salem Oregon for help and they never picked up the phone. It is the same in California. When the employees are happy with there jobs then customers will see that there concerns will be taken care of.

I had a similar experience with Best Buy. I'm not a techy person and they're policy timelines stink. I went there once and swore to never come back after the experience I had trying to return something barely used. If you can get it somewhere else, I would.


Return policy stinks

Shop perioidically at the local Best Buy in Hawaii. Went to return a completely unused television for a refund, the manager said it was 2 days past the return policy of 15 days......I told him, your not serious are you? Said I could have a store credit, I told him NO WAY WOULD I EVER SHOP OR WANT ANYTHING FROM HERE EVER AGAIN if your that chicken shit.... HURRY UP AND GO BANKRUPT...they on their last legs already. Cant even find someone to help you till its time to pay and then they suddenly show up so they can get a commission for nothing. Totally losing business, THEY ARE THE NEXT TO CLOSE AND I definitely wont miss them from now on.
